You can’t throw a chopstick in Greensboro without hitting a sushi spot, but the range here is genuinely silly: everything from a hole-in-the-wall doing Thai-Laotian-Japanese mashups to a family spot where the kids fight over spicy mayo. I’ve eaten my way through all of it, including one place that should be avoided at all costs.

The good news? You don’t need to gamble.

Owner’s friendly roll specials
Summer rolls worth the trip
Hole-in-the-wall, big flavors

Wasabi Cafe 77 is the kind of place I usually walk past twice before finding the door, and that's exactly why I like it. The large rolls come at fair prices, and the Thai-Laotian-Japanese mix means you can get something no other sushi bar in Greensboro offers. The owner's friendly roll specials are worth asking about, but the summer rolls are the real reason I return. They're cold, crisp, and packed with flavor. A hole-in-the-wall with big flavors, though I'd skip the miso if you're in a hurry. Service is unhurried, but that's part of the charm.

Kazoku Japanese Restaurant gets the basics right, which is rarer than you'd think. The service is fast, friendly, and accurate, and my order arrived exactly as I asked, no substitutions, no surprises. The sushi is delicious, affordable, and presented beautifully, which matters when you're trying to impress someone. The atmosphere is clean, pleasant, and date-worthy without being stuffy. I've recommended it to three people already, and I'll be back myself. It's easy to recommend and even easier to revisit, especially when you want a reliable meal without the pretense. This one earns its place on the list.

Friendly, efficient staff
Worth returning for fresh rolls

Imperial Koi Asian Bistro & Sushi Bar surprised me with its fresh, delicious sushi and equally good service. The hibachi was cooked to order with a delicate flavor that didn't rely on soy sauce, and the soup came with a surprising pineapple touch that actually worked. The staff is friendly and efficient, which matters when the place gets busy. I'll be returning for the fresh rolls, no question. It's not the cheapest spot, but you pay for quality. If you're looking for a dependable sushi fix with a bit of hibachi flair, this is a solid choice. Just don't skip the soup.

Fresh, excellent California rolls
Polite, attentive service throughout
Clean, relaxing family atmosphere
Kids loved the spicy mayo
Informative waitress on menu items

US Sushi is a family operation in the best sense. The California rolls were fresh and excellent, with the rice perfectly seasoned and the crab not mushy. The service was polite and attentive throughout, and the waitress took time to explain menu items I hadn't tried. The atmosphere is clean and relaxing, which is rare for a place that also handles kids well. My kids loved the spicy mayo, which they put on everything. It's not flashy, but it's consistent. If you want a low-key, no-drama sushi meal with good people, this fits. I'd come back just for the rolls.

Impressed this sushi connoisseur
Busy, promising, attentive owner
Good sushi, generous portions
All-you-can-eat option available

Sushi Kingdom impressed this sushi connoisseur, and I don't use that term lightly. The place was busy, which is always a good sign, and the owner was attentive despite the crowd. The sushi was good, with generous portions that left me satisfied. They offer an all-you-can-eat option, which I normally avoid, but the quality here makes it tempting. The rolls are packed, not skimpy, and the fish tastes fresh. Service was prompt even when the place filled up. I'd recommend coming early to avoid the rush. It's a solid choice for a hearty sushi meal that doesn't skimp.

Playboy roll crowd favorite
Handles large groups well
Reliable hibachi and sushi

Wasabi | Sushi • Teriyaki handles large groups well, which is a point in its favor if you're coordinating a birthday or a team dinner. The Playboy roll was the crowd favorite at my table, and I can see why, it's got a nice balance of textures and a bit of heat. The hibachi and sushi are reliable, nothing groundbreaking, but consistent. The staff kept drinks full and plates moving even with a party of ten. It's not the place for a quiet, intimate sushi experience, but it's dependable. I'd go back for the roll and the efficient service.

Highlights
Avoid at all costs

Kobe Grill should be avoided at all costs. I don't say that lightly, but my experience was bad enough that I'm warning you now. The sushi tasted old, the rice was dry, and the service was indifferent at best. I waited nearly forty minutes for a basic order, and what arrived was not worth the wait. The place felt unclean, and I couldn't shake that feeling. There are better options in Greensboro, many of them on this list. Save your money and your appetite. I will not be returning, and neither should you.

"Ale by Rail" nailed it
Dog-friendly, fire pits, outdoor space
Mike behind the bar shines

Oden Brewing Company isn't a sushi place, but it earns a spot here for its train-side seating and live bands, which make for a memorable evening. The food comes from rotating food trucks, so the sushi depends on whoever shows up, but the 'Ale by Rail' nailed it. Mike behind the bar shines, and the outdoor space with fire pits is perfect for a cool night. It's dog-friendly and kid-friendly, which is a rare combo. If you want sushi, call ahead to see which truck is parked. Otherwise, come for the atmosphere and a beer.

Highlights
Large, open, airy spaces
Patio and turf seating
Food trucks and BYO
Weekly trivia and live music
Fast service, fair brews

Joymongers Brewing Co. offers large, open, airy spaces that are a welcome change from cramped sushi bars. The patio and turf seating are great for groups, and the food trucks rotate, so you might get lucky with a sushi vendor. BYO is allowed, which is a plus if you have a favorite roll spot. The service is fast, and the brews are fair, nothing extraordinary but solid. Weekly trivia and live music keep things lively. It's not a dedicated sushi destination, but it's a fine backup plan. I'd come for the space and a pint, not the fish.

Attentive, knowledgeable staff
Affordable drink prices
Helpful allergy education
Great tea gift options

Vida pour Tea is a tea shop, not a sushi place, so why am I including it? Because after a heavy sushi meal, you need a good oolong to cut through the soy. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, and they helped me pick a tea that didn't clash with my earlier fish. Drink prices are affordable, and they're great with allergy education, which is more than most restaurants can say. They also have excellent tea gift options if you're visiting someone. It's not sushi, but it's a necessary stop on any Greensboro sushi tour. I'll be back for the jasmine.

Worth a return visit, easily

Sushi Republic is fresh, delicious, and consistently reliable, which is the trifecta I look for. The owner is friendly and the staff welcomes you like a regular, even on your first visit. Prices are great, and the menu is generous, so you can try a few things without breaking the bank. The sushi shines; skip the fried items, they're not the point. I've been back three times, and it's gotten better each time. It's easily worth a return visit, and I'll keep going. If you want a no-fuss, high-quality sushi experience, this is it.

Mizumi Hibachi and Sushi has never let me down, and I've been enough times to count. The sushi is fresh, every single time, and the staff provides unmatched customer service.
